L.A.NSC Database Use Agreement
Thank you for your interest in the Los Angeles Neighborhood Services and Characteristics (L.A.NSC) Database. You will need to complete a registration form in order to download these data.
Please note that the L.A.NSC Database is provided as a public service to the research community. However, despite our best efforts, the data and documentation provided on this website may contain errors. As with other data, researchers should proceed with caution and conduct their own data quality evaluations whenever possible.
To obtain access to the L.A.NSC Database, the User agrees to the following conditions:
- You will use the data in the L.A.NSC Database only for scientific research and statistical reporting.
- You will not transfer the L.A.NSC Database or derived files to anyone else other than staff members and students working directly under your supervision. There is an exception to this condition for data libraries and archives. You will ask your co-investigators to register separately.
- You agree to destroy any downloaded L.A.NSC Database files and any derived data files if requested to do so by RAND.
- You agree to send us (lafans@rand.org) the citations for any papers, articles, books, working papers, presentations at professional meetings or conferences, or other publications that used the L.A.NSC Database. We also ask that you send us copies of these publications. Electronic copies are preferred, although hard copies are accepted (contact us at lafans@rand.org for our mailing address).
- You will acknowledge L.A.FANS as the source of the L.A.NSC Database in all reports and publications based on these data. The acknowledgement should substantially follow the form below: "This research is based on census tract-level data created by the Los Angeles Family and Neighborhood Survey which is funded by a grant R01 HD35944 from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to RAND in Santa Monica, California. For further information on L.A.FANS, go to lasurvey.rand.org."
- Report any errors in the database or documentation to L.A.FANS at lafans@rand.org.
- Agree to insure that anyone working with the data you downloaded follows these rules in their use of the data.
